Hejduk returns to US MNT

U.S. National Team head coach Bob Bradley has added veteran defender Frankie Hejduk to the U.S. training camp roster for the CONCACAF World Cup qualifying matches against Honduras on Sat., Oct. 10 at Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula and on Wed., Oct. 14 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.

This is the fourth FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign for Hejduk who has 84 career caps (second most on the roster for the Honduras match) and seven international goals. He has appeared for the USA 17 times in World Cup qualifying, most recently in the 3-0 victory on April 1 against Trinidad & Tobago. Just days prior to that game in Nashville, Hejduk set up one goal and scored the equalizer in the 2-2 draw against El Salvador on March 28 in San Salvador.

The addition of the 35-year-old Hejduk brings the U.S. roster training in Miami to 22 players. The Columbus Crew captain will arrive in Miami this evening and begin training with the U.S. team tomorrow. Bradley will name an 18-man game day roster for each match.

Por tal motivo, el Cuerpo Técnico de la Selección Nacional decidió convocar al jugador de los Pumas de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Juan Francisco Palencia, quien reportará con la Selección el día de mañana, miércoles 7 de octubre.

En la penúltima fecha del hexagonal final de Concacaf para el Mundial de Futbol Sudafrica 2010, dos equipos podrían asegurar su boleto a la cita mundialista, México y Estados Unidos, las dos escuadras, por mucho, más fuertes del área.

Bradley Names the roster against Honduras without Dempsey

The U.S. first travels to San Pedro Sula to face Honduras , with kickoff on Oct. 10 at the Estadio Olímpico Metropolitano set for 8 p.m. MT. Four days later, the U.S. returns home for the last match of final round qualifying when they will take on Costa Rica in Washington , D.C. Kickoff at RFK Stadium is set for 8 p.m. ET, and the match will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and Univision. CLINT DEMPSEY OUT OF HONDURAS QUALIFIER WITH SHOULDER INJURY: U.S. midfielder Clint Dempsey has been diagnosed with a shoulder sprain and will not be available for the FIFA World Cup qualifier against Honduras on Oct. 10 in San Pedro Sula . Dempsey, who sits in second place amongst U.S. goalscorers in 2010 qualifying with five goals, will be evaluated throughout the week to determine his availability for the USA’s final qualifier against Costa Rica on Oct. 14 in Washington, D.C. Dempsey left in the 84th minute of Fulham’s 2-2 draw at West Ham on Sunday, and underwent an MRI evaluation earlier today. No replacement player will be added to the roster prior to Saturday’s match.

SCENARIOS FOR USA TO QUALIFY: In order to secure a top-three finish in CONCACAF and an automatic berth to the FIFA World Cup on MatchDay 9 at Honduras, the U.S. Men have to equal or exceed the number of points that Costa Rica earns hosting Trinidad & Tobago, which can be accomplished the following ways:
A U.S. win (with any Costa Rica result)
A Costa Rica loss (with any U.S. result)
A U.S. tie with a Costa Rica tie or loss

Landin scores his first goal in MLS with Houston

HOUSTON -- A 10-man Houston Dynamo sewed up another spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs with a 1-1 tie against the Kansas City Wizards on Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium.

Playing a man down for a majority of the match after forward Cam Weaver was ejected early, the Dynamo took a 1-0 lead in the 26th minute on Luis Angel Landin's first goal of the season.

But the added work of playing a man down led to multiple quality scoring chances for the Wizards in the second half. Zoltan Hercegfalvi scored the tying goal in the 73rd minute, but the Dynamo earned the point they needed to get them into the playoffs for the fourth consecutive year after moving to Houston from San Jose following the 2005 season.

Late in the second half, Claudio Lopez dropped a near-perfect pass from near the center circle over the top of the Dynamo defense. Running onto the ball alone, instead of settling the pass, Zoltan one-timed a shot from 10 yards out that glanced off Houston goalkeeper Pat Onstad and into the net for a 1-1 tie.


The goal came just four minutes after second-half substitute Dominic Oduro missed a wide open chance to give the Orange a 2-0 lead. Brian Mullan got by the K.C. defense and sent a pass back to the top of the box where Oduro was waiting. Oduro rushed his shot and fired high into the stands.

The Wizards then converted their next scoring chance on Zoltan's first-ever MLS score.

In the first 15 minutes of the game, the Wizards carried play and just missed two excellent chances to take the early lead on the road.

First, after Josh Wolff settled an awkward cross behind the Houston defense, he skipped a shot just wide and to the left of Onstad, who was lucky less than 10 minutes later when a former teammate nearly scored the first goal.

After Claudio Lopez sent a cross into the box to Kei Kamara, the former Dynamo player who was traded for Abe Thompson, had a seemingly wide open net in which to shoot. But Kamara, who scored the only goal of the game in a 1-0 Houston win at K.C. earlier this summer, fired high only to see his shot glance off the crossbar and out of harm's way.

Four minutes later, the Dynamo went a man down with Cam Weaver was ejected for a two-footed and late tackle from behind on Santiago Hirsig. Referee Jorge Gonzalez made the right call, and the play by Weaver seemed to spark the Wizards, who nearly scored seven minutes after the incident.

From 27 yards out, Lopez found some space outside the box and nearly beat Onstad with and left-footed rocket. But Onstad dove to his left, got a hand on the ball and made the save.

Perhaps inspired by keeping the surging Wizards from capitalizing, Mullan and Landin teamed up for a very nice goal as Houston took a lead shorthanded.

After slipping a quick pass over to Mullan on the right, Landin sprinted toward the goal and waited for Mullan, who got room after getting Jimmy Conrad out of position. With his left foot, Mullan sent a rolling cross through the box to Landin, who was unmarked by the left post.

Landin tapped in past Hartman from almost on the goal line for a 1-0 lead that stood until K.C. finally broke through on Zoltan's goal that cost the Dynamo two points in the standings and left them tied with the Los Angeles Galaxy atop the Western Conference standings.

The Dynamo have next weekend off from league play before meeting the Galaxy on Sunday, Oct. 18 at Robertson Stadium in a game that could decide who holds home-field advantage in the Western Conference throughout the postseason. The Wizards, whose playoff hopes are still alive -- though barely -- travel to The Home Depot Center to face Chivas USA next Saturday.

Igualan Santos y Puebla en partidazo 3-3, Jornada 11 del futbol mexicano, Apertura 2009

Santos y Toluca protagonizaron el juego más vibrante de la jornada 11 del torneo mexicano del futbol de Primera División al igualar 3-3 en partido celebrado en el estadio “Cuahutémoc” de la capital molera.

Fue al minuto 23’ cuando se abrió el marcador por conducto de Juan Pablo Rodríguez al cobrar el penal luego de la falta cometida por Gilberto Mora, del Puebla, sobre “Guty” Estrada de Santos, en el área. Mora se pintó de amarillo.

Rodríguez cobró con pierna derecha y colocó el esférico pegado al poste izquierdo.

El empate vendría a los 43’ cuando el delantero guatemalteco y ex jugador de la MLS, Carlos “Pescado” Ruiz, bajó el esférico de pecho, la dejó botar y definió con disparo al ángulo derecho.

Durante el segundo tiempo Puebla se puso al frente cuando Rodrigo Salinas a los 64 de tiempo corrido, envió un servicio a Vignieri quien remató sólo por el centro.

Al 77’ Carlos Ochoa, llegó por sector izquierdo y batió al portero del Puebla, para que Santos Laguna igualara los cartones de nueva cuenta.

Y parecía que el visitante se llevaba la victoria cuando Fernando Arce puso su rúbrica a una bella jugada de conjunto a los 81’.

Fue al 83’ cuando llegó el empate producto de un tiro de esquina, improbable situación de gol por la baja estatura de los jugadores del Puebla, ninguno llega a los 1.80 metros, pero fue que Velásquez peinó con la testa el balón y Ruiz, sólo en el segundo poste, sólo tuvo que empujarlo hacia el fondo de la red.

Señores, por favor, el chico juega en la Segunda División española con el Barcelona, club del cual surgió su hermano mayor, una joya que se busca recuperar luego de que después de ganar el Mundial Sub 17 en el 2005 pareció perder piso.
Dicen los que lo conocen que es mejor jugador que "Gio", habrá que verlo, pero no hay que rasgarse las vestiduras, la convocatoria es para un juego no oficial este miércoles frente a Colombia.
